Self-Levelling Pool Table for Rough Games

| February 15, 2012 |

Ah, there’s nothing quite like the experience of playing pool. It’s a great way to wind down and a nice relaxing activity too. Unless you happen to be on a cruise ship of course, which is surely the last place you can have a proper game – isn’t it?

Apparently not – at least not if you get a self levelling pool table like the one that has taken its place on one of the Royal Caribbean ships named Radiance of the Seas. It might sound impossible but it’s all down to a gyroscope that helps to level and stabilise the table no matter what the waves might be doing to the ship.

Somehow I doubt this great gadget will improve my own pool play, but it’s nice to know you can continue with your game even if the seas get really rough. It’s almost worth booking a spot on the next cruise just to have the experience of using the pool table while you are out at sea.

I guess the rise and fall of the pool table would require some getting used to though. It means the sides and ends of the table rise and fall with the movement of the ship, resulting in no movement from the actual balls.

Ah, now I see I do have an excuse for poor pool play after all. I’d love the opportunity to play on this bizarre table: I suspect after a while the novelty wears off and you can focus on trying to beat your opponent as per usual.

Take a look at this video of the table in action:
