Mobileye, Driver Safety Alerts Using a Smart Camera

| February 6, 2012 |

Every year there are a hundreds if not thousands of car accidents, which often have fatal consequences. According to America’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or the NHTSA for short, most of the accidents that occur each year, happen because of a three second slip of concentration by the driver.

Three seconds is nothing, so anything that we can add to our cars to help us avoid a collision is a good thing, isn’t it? Of course it is. Using a ‘smart’ camera and all sorts of clever algorithms that I doubt I’ll ever understand, Mobileye’s new safety solutions can alert you (the driver) about all manner of things, including; unintended lane departures, imminent collisions, pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcyclists that are on the road at any given time.

It can even read speed limit signs, so that it can alert you about speeding, which let’s be honest, we’re all guilty of sometimes. The latest models fit almost every type of car.

The Mobileye Driver safety solution is currently only available in America. However, with the obvious benefits that it provides, it probably won’t be long before the UK will see similar products from Mobileye.

Pricing is also unclear at the moment, but remember, you can’t put a price on safety, especially if you are driving with your family in the car. Until then, resist all of your racer urges, and don’t even think about taking that phone call, remember, three seconds is all it takes to ruin your life in an accident.
