It seems like a day can’t go by without a new tablet release. It started with the iPad and it doesn’t look like it’s going to stop any time soon either.

Everyone wants a tablet and every company worth its computing salts wants to give you one! The latest tablet offering comes from Skytex. The Skypad Alpha 2 is a brand new Android 4.0 tablet device for the casual internet browser.

For its price it comes with a rather impressive specification. As standard you’ll get a 1.2GHz ARM Cortex-A8 CPU, full 1080p video playback, a Mali-400 graphics processor and it can even handle stereoscopic 3D video files.

If you do fancy playing some 3D videos, you will have to attach the device to a compatible monitor or TV The tablet itself measures 7inches and gives you 5 points of capacitive touch recognition.

As for the OS, you get Android’s fantastic Gingerbread to begin with, but an update to Ice Cream Sandwich is expected soon. This should really improve the Skypad’s usability.

It also comes with a mini-USB slot, micro SD card slot, a headphone jack, and a front facing webcam. Regarding its looks, the Alpha 2 tablet is relatively attractive, with its outer aluminium shell.

Skytex’s Skypad Alpha 2 Tablet is available now for $299 (£190). Not a bad price when you consider its features. They may not be in the same league as some of the higher end devices, but this would still be a welcome surprise under your festive tree.
