The health hazards of modern work are well known because most activities are so sedentary. Health experts regularly advise us to get off our backsides every hour or two to walk around the office or even better, take a mini-break in the fresh air outside.

Desktop Table Hockey, priced at £19.95, is a compact mini air hockey game that lets you combine the thrill of competitive sport with some physical exertion during your lunch break. Just find yourself a partner, and you’re all set.

Manufactured by Peers Hardy, the game involves the two players trying to push the puck into the opponent’s goal using paddles. The puck itself is kept afloat on jets of air that are forced out by the device.

The table measures 31.5 x 51.4 x 11.7cm and weighs a little over 2.5 Kg. What you get when you buy this game is the table, two pucks and two paddles.

Whoever scores 10 goals first is the winner. To make things more interesting, you can always make up your own rules. For example, you can stipulate that whoever scores the first goal is the winner. You can also play as teams. Each game involves one player from each team. The team that wins the match is the one that scores the most goals.

Keeping the two pucks afloat using streams of air need electrical energy that is supplied by 8 AA batteries. It is not clear how many hours you can get with a set of 8 batteries; in any event, using rechargeable batteries may be easier on your pockets.
