Avid television watchers will have fond memories of watching all kinds of igloos appearing on their screens in a whole host of frosty and cold environments and this instantly recognisable shape has cropped up in all kinds of films, cartoons and TV shows, all normally seen with a friendly looking Eskimo at its side. The ingenious design of the igloo makes it one of the oldest known gadgets that really does the job properly – cold to touch on the outside, but keeping its occupants safe, warm and in comfort inside.
Across the frozen pond in order to reach Finland is the home of the Hotel Kakslauttanen which is gloriously revelling in all things igloo and on display to witness now is the Igloo Village that positively glows with excitement and warmth. The hotel complex has created a thoroughly unique and beautifully built igloo village in which guests can kick off their heels and stay if the mood takes them. Visitors often come to the area to take in the magnificence and spell-binding attraction of the Northern Lights and can then relax in this deliciously icy environment.
Enough to warm the heart of anyone though we think, even the strongest Ice Queen is going to definitely melt when they see the Igloo Village up close with its igloos that have amazing ceilings constructed of glass. The open view of the rooftops gives occupants a clear and uninterrupted sky view to see the stars in all their glory and for those in the open air the beacons of light that the glowing igloos provide is really a sight to behold.
Those who would like to get wed or renew their vows in a white, or ice, wedding can also tie the knot here as an available ice chapel, with restaurant and bar in its grounds has a yearly presence. It’s also rumoured that Santa can also be spotted from time to time in the hotel village area close by, but no Eskimos included!
