The process of how companies build ecosystems of products and accessories is fascinating. As the iPhone and iPad continue their dominance in the smartphone and tablet markets, other companies are coming up with devices and accessories that can make the iPad and iPhone even more useful.
Epson’s MegaPlex MG-850HD & MG-50 projectors are amongst the latest examples of this process. These low-end home theatre projectors can help project images or text from your iPad or iPhone. Think of when you are sitting at home with family and you want to show everyone those pictures you took on your iPhone.
These could be pictures taken at the office do, where you were displaying your hidden dancing talent, or photographs of your new-born niece.
These projectors can be quite useful even in a work situation that requires a group of people to jointly examine some data or modify presentation material. Instead of exchanging e-mails, one person can save the material on his/her iPad and hook it up to the projector.
Others can view the slides on the screen and offer their comments to refine the slides. Especially at external locations, where hiring AV equipment can be expensive, having your own projector will even give you a decent payback period, with the MG-850HD priced at US$799 and the MG-50 at US$699.
Both models use 3-chip LCD technology and have HDMI and VGA ports. Both come with 10W dual speakers and can handle video from docked iOS devices (e.g. iPad, iPhone). The MG-850HD delivers a resolution of 720 pixels backed by 2800 lumens of brightness, while the MG-50 delivers 540 pixels at 2200 lumens.
